Reno Is Artown
Oh boy! What a month it has been here in Reno, NV. Artists and Creatives pull out all the stops as Reno Is Artown for July! This month has flown by, and we have been having a blast! There is so much theater, art, and music to take in, and we covered a lot of events this month. If you don’t already know, we have an online magazine called Reno Arts News. We keep our audience updated on visual arts and performance art in Reno and other surrounding areas. Click on the link above and check out Dana’s photos and articles about each event.
Donner Train Tunnels
Our most recent adventure was visiting the historic Donner Train Tunnels. I have been there twice before for photography opportunities. This time we concentrated on the walk through all six tunnels. Each tunnel is unique in texture and size, filled with graffiti art. It’s quite a site to see! As one tunnel ends, another begins after a small clearing where you can view the mountainous terrain and even see Donner Lake towards the end. Here are some photos I took along the way.
What a fun month it has been! I am feeling better and stronger in so many ways. I am proud of walking over six miles through the Donner Train Tunnels. Previously, I have only made it through four tunnels and am in so much pain afterward. This is a victory for me, as my feet are still healing from my previous job. I could barely walk three miles without being in excruciating pain. This time my recovery time was less and minimal pain. I celebrate the small victories as they are just as important!
Conclusion
In my previous blog, “Reinventing Myself- Part 3,” I had mentioned that I was working on my art project using diamond dots. I finally finished it and am working on a new one now. Here is a picture of the finished product compliments of my daughter Shelby giving it to me for my birthday.
I found the diamond dots to be meditative and therapeutic. I highly recommend trying them out. They come in different sizes and picture patterns. I work on mine in the evening, for a couple of hours, usually while we watch tv. It feels good to do what I love and have the energy to complete it, whether it be art or nature walks etc. I encourage you to take those baby steps and truly live not just exist.
